Jaroslav "Jerry" Rek

Jaroslav (Jerry) Rek, 89, of Janesville passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Azura Memory Care in Beloit. Jerry was born in Dobrovice, Caslav, Czechoslovakia, on May 22, 1924, the son of Marie Firerova and Vaclav Rek. He married Eleanor Kandler on May 5, 1956. He is survived by his wife and children, Harald (Chris) Rek and Renee (Rick) Hart and his grandchildren Kelly (Tony) Kaiser, Andrew (Katie Knack) Rek, Jacob (Brittany) Garvin and Jessica Garvin.
Jerry had a long career as a barber. From 1939 to 1944 in Czechoslovakia, and spent 1944-1945 in a forced labor camp in Germany. After World War II, from 1945 to 1949 Jerry served in the Czechoslovakian Army. He left Czechoslovakia in 1950 for Germany where he met his wife, Eleanor. From May 1951 to February 1956, he was a driver and clerk for 946 Sigma service company of the US Army in Germany. He came to America in late 1956 and was a barber in Janesville until he sold his business in 2005. He would go back not long after to work just on Mondays because he missed his work and his clients so much. He finally hung up his scissors just a few years ago due to failing eyesight. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mila.
Private services will be held. Entombment will be in Milton lawns Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jerry’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. The family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
